最近在看遜咖日記原文版
有兩段我不是很理解他的意思
Like I said, Bryce is the most popular kid in our grade, so that 『leaves all the rest of us guys scrambling for other spots.』爭奪斑點??
The best I can figure is that I'm somewhere around 52nd or 53rd most popular this year.
But the good news is that 『I'm to move up one spot because Charlie Davies is above me, and he's getting his braces next week.』
這段後面因為前面沒銜接上，後面看不太懂= =
另外問nd跟rd是代表?
My reply:
1. spot 的意思除了有班點外, 也有 "順序中的一個地位"的意思, 也就是排名 (spot= a particular place in an order), 所以, 第一段的意思是, Bryce 在我的年級裡是最受歡迎的, 而其他剩下的排名就由我們這幾個來排的意思
The best I can figure... 之後的意思就是作者今年大約是排在第52或53名
好 消息是: I'm to...=I will 我將要 move up one spot (往前一名)因為我的前一名是Charlie Davies, 而為什模我可以往前一名呢? 因為 he is getting his braces next week. 他下周會開始戴牙套(所以會變醜)
這本小說感覺蠻有趣的
2. nd= second, 第52名要用序數是 fifty second, 而不是fifty two; rd=third, 第53名序數為fifty third, 而不是fifty three
